San Diego Wave Stuns Seattle Reign on Van Egmond’s Historic 98th-Minute Winner

In one of the most dramatic finishes in San Diego Wave history, Taylor Van Egmond’s goal in the 98th minute delivered a stunning 1-0 victory over the Seattle Reign — the latest goal ever scored in San Diego history and the first regular season win over the Reign in club history.

Van Egmond’s winner was also her first regular season goal since 2014, making the moment even more remarkable. Her finish capped a match in which San Diego dominated throughout, outshooting Seattle 16-9 with a 5-2 advantage in shots on goal.

Goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan was equally impressive, recording her first clean sheet of the 2024 regular season with a series of crucial saves that kept the scoreline level until Van Egmond’s late heroics.

Several storylines made the night even more special. 16-year-old San Diego native Melanie Barcenas earned her first minutes of the 2024 season as a substitute…

— a milestone moment for the young local talent. Defender Kristen McNabb made her first start of the season after returning from injury, while Alex Morgan contributed her first assist of the campaign.
