SAN DIEGO (May 3, 2026) – San Diego Wave FC came up just short Sunday night, falling 1-0 to Bay FC at Snapdragon Stadium in a match defined by an early goal and missed opportunities.
Bay FC wasted no time setting the tone, striking in the 5th minute with what would ultimately stand as the game-winner. Midfielder Taylor Huff sparked the attack with a well-timed through ball that split the Wave’s backline, finding forward Racheal Kundananji in stride. Kundananji finished the play with a first-time left-footed strike, giving Bay FC an early 1-0 advantage and putting San Diego on the back foot.

Despite the early deficit, the Wave quickly regrouped and began to find rhythm in possession. Their best chance to level the match came in the 16th minute when San Diego was awarded a penalty. Veteran midfielder Kenza Dali stepped up to the spot, but her attempt struck the post and was cleared away, keeping Bay FC in front. It proved to be a pivotal moment, as the Wave were unable to convert one of their most dangerous opportunities of the night.
From that point forward, San Diego controlled much of the tempo and dictated play through the midfield. The Wave consistently applied pressure in the attacking third, creating chances and forcing Bay FC to defend deep. By the final whistle, San Diego had outshot Bay FC 14-10 and maintained the majority of possession, reflecting their sustained push for an equalizer.
However, despite their offensive efforts, the Wave struggled to find the finishing touch. Bay FC’s defensive shape held firm under pressure, limiting clear scoring chances and disrupting San Diego’s attacking flow in key moments. The combination of missed opportunities and strong defensive organization from Bay FC ultimately sealed the outcome.

The match highlighted both the resilience and frustration for San Diego. After conceding early, the team showed composure and determination, controlling large stretches of the game and keeping Bay FC on their heels. At the same time, the inability to capitalize on key chances—most notably the missed penalty—proved costly in a tightly contested match.
For Bay FC, the early goal and disciplined defensive performance were enough to secure all three points on the road. Kundananji’s clinical finish stood as the difference-maker in a game where margins were slim.
As the season continues, San Diego Wave FC will look to build on the positives from this performance while sharpening their finishing in front of goal. With strong possession play and consistent pressure, the foundation is there—but converting chances will be key moving forward.
