Wow, what an incredible match for San Diego and some truly remarkable achievements! Let’s break down all the impressive moments: Firstly, let’s celebrate Kimmi Ascanio for earning her first professional start and making an impact. At just 16 years old, Ascanio’s assist in the match makes her the third-youngest player in NWSL history to record a goal contribution in a regular-season match. This is an extraordinary accomplishment at such a young age. Not only that, but Ascanio also becomes the youngest player to start for San Diego in the regular season, breaking the previous record held by Jaedyn Shaw. It’s inspiring to see young talents making their mark and contributing to the team’s success.
Speaking of Jaedyn Shaw, she scored her first goal of the season, further cementing her place in San Diego’s history. With this goal, Shaw joins Alex Morgan as one of only two Wave FC players to score 10 or more goals in regular-season play. It’s an impressive stat and a testament to Shaw’s skills as a forward. Midfielder Makenzy Doniak also got on the scoresheet, netting her first goal of the season. It’s always exciting to see players finding their form and contributing to the team’s attack. Elyse Bennett deserves special recognition for earning her fifth career regular-season assist on Shaw’s goal. It’s wonderful to see players working together and creating opportunities for each other.
